Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Adel Vision Clinic a proud provider of vision care products and services in Adel.


Barbara Scheetz, Optometrist

Dr. Barbara Scheetz is a Des Moines native, a graduate of Dowling High School, and Drake University. She received her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of Houston in 1989. Upon graduating, she returned to practice in the Des Moines area.

In 1997 Dr. Scheetz was appointed by the governor to be a member of the Iowa Board of Optometric Examiners, which she was a part of for nine years. In 1998, Barbara received “The Young Optometrist of the Year Award” for the state of Iowa. The award is given to an optometrist who shows leadership, dedication, and commitment to the profession.

Dr. Scheetz is married and the couple have a love for Drake basketball games, camping, biking the Raccoon River Valley Trail, traveling, and spending time with their kids and grandchildren.


Marcia Holstad, OptometristMarcia Holstad, Optometrist

Dr. Marcia Holstad is originally from Northwood, Iowa, attended North Iowa Area Community College, and then completed her Bachelor’s degree at Iowa State University. She graduated with her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1995 and settled in central Iowa after graduation to practice comprehensive eye care. She later went back to Drake University to complete her Master of Public Administration degree in 2004.

Dr. Holstad developed and was department head for the Optometric/Ophthalmic Technician Program at Des Moines Area Community College for seven years over the entirety of the program. This program trained students to be technicians in both Optometric and Ophthalmic offices and was one of the few programs encompassing training technicians for both Optometry and Ophthalmology specialty practices in the U.S.

In her free time, Dr. Holstad enjoys spending time with family, friends, and fur babies, playing golf, traveling, gardening, and cheering on Iowa State University athletics.


Julia Green, Office Manager

Julia is from Menlo, Iowa and a graduate of Stuart-Menlo Community School. She has an Associate of Applied Science degree from DMACC in the Medical Office Specialist program. She is also a Certified Professional Coder and a Certified Professional Biller. Julia brings over 25 years of experience in ophthalmology clinics to our practice working both front and back office.

Julia and her husband Travis live on an acreage west of Adel where they enjoy gardening, canning, floating down the river, camping, and spending time with friends around a campfire. Julia is also an avid reader.
